Walking in the Footsteps of Giants

Summer Adventures in the Eastern Pyrenees.

Escape and Evasion: Freedom Trail /The Chemin de la Liberté as seen on Channel

This is justifiably our most popular trek and follows one of the toughest of the World War 2 escape and evasion lines across the Pyrenees from France into Spain. I have 7 years experience of this trek, and I have had the pleasure to help many walkers across the mountains, both with the Commemorative Walk in July and also as a private guide.  As well as the epic scenery filled with flora and wildlife there is also the history as we walk in the footsteps of the brave who endeavoured to cross the Pyrenees to reach safety to fight again and the brave men and women of the escape and evasion networks that helped them.

The Chemin de la Liberté was featured in the Channel 4 documentary series 'Escaping Hitler'. Programme 4, shown on October 7th 2017, saw the presenter Monty Halls complete the trek. Pyrenees Mountain Adventure were the support team for Monty Halls and the crew during filming.

Mountain huts and B and B style accommodation used although one evening is in a shepherd's shelter with no warden. Can be completed with wild camps.  Basic trek is 4 days but there are options to extend your trek to include the summit of Mont Valier that dominates the latter stages of the trek.
