Magic Mountain Moments.

Booking a holiday with Pyrenees Mountain Adventure.

Travel.
There are airports in Toulouse, Carcassonne, Perpignan, Gerona and Barcelona that can be used to reach the Eastern Pyrenees. All are served budget airlines. Pyrenees Mountain Adventure offers a free transfer from your airport.

Why not travel to the Eastern Pyrenees by train? The train is kinder on the planet and travelling overnight in a sleeper train, you can sleep the miles away! Pyrenees Mountain Adventure is helping to encourage greener travel, with a £100 Greener Travel Cashback.

The PMA Greener Travel Cashback:

Greener Travel: Flying is very often not the most environmentally friendly travel option.

The journey from London Stansted to Perpignan is 1343km by road (source: AA) and 1030km by plane (source: WebFlyer.) The CO2 emissions per person are as follows:

Small Car 171.9 kg of CO2 per passenger with 1 passenger
Small Car 86.0 kg of CO2 per passenger with 2 passengers

Large Car 345.7 kg of CO2 per passenger with 1 passenger
Large Car 115.2 kg of CO2 per passenger with 3 passengers

Train 71.7 kg of CO2 per passenger
Coach 40.3 kg of CO2 per passenger
Plane 176.5 kg of CO2 per passenger

Note: For the purpose of these estimations it was assumed that a small petrol engine is up to 1.2 litres, a medium petrol engine is up to 1.8 litres, and a large petrol engine is up to 3 litres.
A small diesel engine is up to 1.4 litres, a medium diesel engine is 2 to 2.2 litres and a large diesel engine is over 3 litres.

For a journey of this length, it is interesting to note how environmentally unfriendly travel by car is with only one passenger.

It is possible to offset your carbon emissions from the plane journey although not everyone agrees this is the way forward: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carbon_offset#Controversies.

To encourage the use of more environmentally friendly transport, Pyrenees Mountain Adventure offers a Greener Travel Cash Back. The £100 cash back will be paid subject to proof being provided that travel to the Eastern Pyrenees was completed in a manner that created CO2 emissions per person equal or less, than half of that created by travelling by plane. Train and coach travel would qualify as would car travel given certain conditions (size of car and number of passengers in the car).
The CO2 emissions per person of your chosen method of travel can be can be calculated at Transport Direct

The £100 will be paid by cheque or can be deducted from the price of the holiday provided proof of future rail travel can be provided.

To help you plan your journey by rail, these sites are very useful:
The Man In Seat 61. Tells you how to travel overland comfortably & affordably where you might think that air was now the only option.
SNCF. The government owned French rail network.
Eurostar. London to Europe by train.
Rail Europe. European rail travel for UK residents, including Eurostar.
Eurolines. Coach travel across Europe

Some find the night train the best way to travel to the Eastern Pyrenees. London to Paris and then Paris to Perpignan. Catch the (direct) sleeper train from Paris (9.53 p.m.) and wake up the next morning in Perpignan (7.13 a.m.) or catch the direct sleeper train from Paris (  ) and wake up the next morning in Carcassonne (   ).
It is worth spending the extra money on a ‘bed’/couchette rather than making the journey in a reclining seat.
Couchettes in women only compartments are available.
Allow sufficient time to transfer between the stations in Paris - Gare du Nord and Gare d’Austerlitz.
The luggage allowance is more generous on railways compared to airlines.
